Last fall while I was fishing at the Miramichi River in New Brunswick I decided to take a morning away from the river and explore the area with my camera. The light was beckoning and I followed my nose. I set out to capture whatever caught my eye and soon found myself doing a series of shots with the maple leaf as my main focus. It was interesting to see all of the different images that were presented to me when I narrowed down my focus. There are of course many other shots as well (some I will include here). They range from looking off of the bridge at the fog lifting from the water surface to the light and shadow playing over the submerged rock formations. Once again I am striving for the way in which these elements take on an abstract nature due to the composition of each. The last three photos of the sumac in fiery red are some of my favourites. The range and contrast of colours in them is very captivating I find. The last one on the list was just printed on canvas at 26″ x 39″. It really jumps off the wall.
ENJOY!

Now that I have a system in place that allows me to send out emails to my list of recipients while protecting their privacy I can once again get back to my blogging (funny word). I have been painting and shooting lots of photos since I last posted and wanted to share a little of that with you here.
I have always enjoyed winter as a season for various reasons. For one I love to ski and have also taken up snowboarding. Since we live only 15 mins. from Poley Mountain www.poleymountain.com we spend lots of hours on the slopes. Our family is all interested at various levels and it is great exercise for all.
The winter season and of course the wonderful white blanket over the landscape that it can bring has for as long as I can remember been a fascination of mine. Coupled with my interest in the landscape at night it can bring about some fabulous imagery. The area that we live in is very dark due to the lack of streetlights and the moonlight is spectacular when it is full. I often will turn out all of the lights to watch the moon pass overhead and cast shadows of the trees across a fresh blanket of snow. The way our house is situated and the many windows give us many viewpoints in which to enjoy this spectacle. The ever changing conditions bring about some incredible sights. a couple of weeks ago during the moons full phase I awoke at about 5 am to be presented with what I believe is the best yet in an ongoing series of natural wonders. I made myself stay awake and laid for a few moments to watch the moonlight streaming through the fog and the branches of the big maple tree in our yard. It was breathtakingly beautiful and very quiet and eerie in a way. I couldn’t help but to gather up my camera gear and tripod and bring it into the bedroom for some attempt at capturing this magnificent scene. I tried many different time exposures and aperture settings to try and allow for the mood and the almost animated effect to be captured. The results were very satisfying and I wanted to share one of them with you here. I will more than likely be interpreting this image onto canvas with acrylic soon but I was excited about it as a photo so here it is. Also I’ve added a couple of others of shadows shot around the yard the preceding evening. ENJOY! Feel free to comment. I enjoy the feedback.

I am adding yet another category to the blog to aid in highlighting my photography.
Yesterday was the 58th anniversary of my Mother and Father and we were having them come to our place for surf and turf. I went out for a drive to visit the best butcher in the land and to run a few errands. I usually carry my camera along for the ride because, as I have said to my students so many times, “You just never know”. While I was out we had quite a dramatic change in the landscape. The light changing after the snow squall was very dramatic and made for some interesting contrasts. I was stopping and starting my truck so much that I should have had one of those signs for frequent stops. I ran up and down the roadside snapping pictures as the sunlight revealed another interesting scene. I enjoy this type of impromptu gathering of images. I hope that you enjoy some of the shots that I am sharing here.
